Cookies for Major Chalko
A few weeks ago a letter appeared on the bulletin board in the company breakroom. It was from Maria, the intrepid Mrs. Chalko. Her husband Nick is our very own sir-yes-sir Marine Corp Major — and also a fine software engineer. Nick was called up from reserve duty earlier this year, and he’s been gone for several months.
Mrs. Chalko wrote to explain that Nick had finally made it through all the preparations stateside and was now “somewhere sandy.” She included his mailing address in case anybody wanted to send him some hard mail.
As it happens, my colleague Leslie Newborn and I had the same idea at the same time: we would make him some cookies! Leslie made a bunch of her Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies, and I made some of my Chocolate Chip Cookies. About two weeks ago, we packaged up about 100 of them between us and sent them to his unit in Iraq.
Just today I heard from Nick on Instant Messenger. The cookies arrived Friday! Keep up the good work, Major Chalko and the Marines of CLR-25 S-4!
