I see rich people

Today we are working at the Starbucks in Santana Row with our friend David Robbins. As we were walking along Karen quipped, I see rich people — which prompted me to write this entry.
In case you haven’t heard, Santana Row is the Place To Be… if you’re snooty and rich! My Wally World heart is very nearly overwhelmed by this place — the projection of pretension and wealth here seem so very much out of place and time. Even though there’s a bona fide depression going on here in Silicon Valley (unemployment is at an effective rate of 17%) there are many stores here that seem so much more appropriate for Carmel or Beverly Hills. My guess is that this place thrives on the same group hypnosis that Palo Alto does — Silicon Valley will come back; it always does!
