Down to 40 cups a day

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2003

In Monday’s Dilbert, Wally is sent to a Coffee Rehab Program that promises to get him down to 40 cups a day:

That used to be me! I love coffee. I have loved it for a long time. I even have a special poster of my favorite coffee brand (Kaladi Bros.) framed and hanging on my home office wall. I can tell the different varieties by taste, and I am picky about which roaster is used to roast the coffee I drink. I despise Starbucks coffee, but drink it all the time anyway because at least it is consistently bad. Peet’s, on the other hand, is wildly inconsistent in its roasting quality. Sometimes it’s very good, but often it’s horribly burnt. Thus, I avoid it.

(Note: as of a much later date, 4/20/2008, I no longer have such a bad opinion of Peet’s.)

But, recently, and for no particular reason other than a desire to drink more water (which is another topic I will save for later), I have dramatically decreased my coffee intake. I used to drink a pot or two a day! For years! It’s the passing of an era that has happened very subtly. Weird. Anyway, I thought I’d share that. And, hopefully, Wally will survive coffee rehab!

The Posthumous Career of Dr. Atkins

Saturday, April 19th, 2003

We were chatting on Instant Messenger recently:

cat_shepherd: Dr Atkins died last night.
webwoman100: WHAT?
webwoman100: oh that is sad
cat_shepherd: Yup
cat_shepherd: He hit his head in a fall on some ice.
cat_shepherd: No, he did not die of congestive heart failure
webwoman100: boy, he really must of hit it hard
webwoman100: yikes!
cat_shepherd: Aneurism.
cat_shepherd: Blot clot in the brain.
cat_shepherd: Bad stuff.
webwoman100: yikes
cat_shepherd: Yeah.
cat_shepherd: Bad for you.
cat_shepherd: Anyways, thought you would want to know.
webwoman100: well it is good he didn’t die of diabetes or heart disease or something
webwoman100: because that would have been bad for his career
cat_shepherd: HA HA HA
cat_shepherd: I think that being DEAD is bad for his career, silly!
webwoman100: oh ya
webwoman100: i guess that’s true
cat_shepherd: That was a Karenism.
cat_shepherd: Did you do that on purpose?
webwoman100: uhhhh….what on purpose?
cat_shepherd: the being bad for his career one
webwoman100: well it would be bad!
webwoman100: i mean everybody would not do his diet then
webwoman100: and his wife would get no money
cat_shepherd: okay — just checking!
webwoman100: you silly thing!
